Algeria: Documentary 'L'algГ©rie Du Possible' Premiered in Algiers

Algiers — The documentary film "L'Algérie du possible, la révolution d'Yves Mathieu" (Algeria of the possible, the revolution of Yves Mathieu) dedicated the anti-colonial activist and lawyer of the National Liberation Front (FLN) Yves Mathieu, of director Viviane Candas, his daughter was shown in Algiers world preview in Algiers on Thursday.

The 90 minute documentary traces the career of Yves Mathieu, born in Annaba, who chose to remain in his country, after independence, to participate in the building of independent Algeria.

Directed as a road movie marked with multiple testimonies of the activist's companions like late President Ahmed Ben Bella, this film focuses on major projects of the Algerian state in the aftermath of independence, in which Yves Mathieu and his wife were involved such as literacy, reforestation of areas bombed with napalm by the colonial army and the setting up of a health system.

Much of the documentary is devoted to the installation of the self-management system of agricultural areas promulgated by President Ahmed Ben Bella in March 1963, through a decree written by Yves Mathieu, based of the testimonies of some political actors as Ahmed Bedjaoui, Mohamed Harbi and Mourad Lamoudi.

These same witnesses in addition to some friends, like the technical director of the Algerian National Theatre at the time, Jean Marie Boëglin discussed the unwavering commitment that Yves Mathieu gave to the cause of the construction of independent Algeria.

The film also recalls the visits of several anti-colonial figures to Algiers, Mecca of all revolutions and liberation movements.
